Jana Small Finance Bank was formally recognized as a non-banking finance business (NBFC) in 2006. As of September 30, 2023, it was ranked fourth in terms of deposit size and fourth in terms of AUM among Small Finance Banks. The bank has a network of 771 banking locations throughout 22 states and two union territories, 278 of which are located in underbanked rural areas. Serving around 12 million clients since its founding in 2008, Jana Bank had 4.87 million active members as of September 30, 2023.

Secured business loans, microloans against property (Micro LAP), MSME loans, loans for affordable housing, term loans to NBFC, loans against fixed deposits, two-wheeler loans, and gold loans are the primary categories of secured loan products. Conversely, group loans, agricultural and related loans, and individual and microbusiness loans are the main unsecured loan products. Group loans are given to a group of women in accordance with the Joint Liability Group (JLG) paradigm.

As of 30 September 2023, the secured gross advances represented 57.42% of the total gross advances, up from 42.87% as of March 31, 2021. As a percentage of gross advances, loans for agriculture and related industries climbed from 13.10% on March 31, 2021, to 16.93% on September 30, 2023.
