With more than 36 years of experience, IREDA is a financial organisation that develops, promotes, and provides funding for energy efficiency and conservation (EEC) and new and renewable energy (RE) projects. From project conception to post-commissioning, the company offers a wide range of finance solutions and related services for RE projects and other value chain activities including equipment production and gearbox.

The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) is in charge of IREDA, a fully-owned Government of India (GoI) corporation. With Infrastructure Finance Company (IFC) status, the company is a Systemically Important Non-Deposit-Taking Non-Banking Finance Company. In June 2015, IREDA was also granted the rank of Mini Ratna (Category I).
It had a diverse portfolio of outstanding term loans totaling INR 47,207 crore as of June 30, 2023. The company has provided funding for projects in a variety of renewable energy sectors, including waste-to-energy, compressed biogas, ethanol, solar, wind, hydropower, transmission, biomass (including bagasse and industrial cogeneration), hybrid RE, EEC, and green mobility.
